The Rotary Club of Tortola has kicked their engines into full gear, to assist the wider community, more so, those greatly impacted by flooding experienced Territory-wide earlier this week.

President of the local charitable body, Karia Christopher said the club has begun its efforts in reaching out to persons in the community, and helping in whatever way they can.

In collaboration with the local Red Cross branch, the club is looking to host a food and supplies drive this coming weekend, to assist persons who lost a great deal at their properties and homes.

Christopher told BVI Platinum News, “The drive will help persons that have been affected by the flood, with different care packages, clothes, books and other supplies.”

She added, “The supplies would be perfectly packaged because in time of crisis, we don’t want any families left out.”

Members of the club are also looking to go out into the community throughout the week to assist in cleanups, painting and rebuilding the community.

Christopher noted that two areas of focus are Purcell Estate and Huntums Ghut.

Additionally, Christopher told BVI Platinum News that the club is also looking to run a campaign, which speaks to keeping the Territory clean and properly disposing of garbage.

“We saw a lot of derelict items around the community after the flood and this all contributed to the effects of the flood.”

She noted that there is a great need to educate persons on such, in efforts of decreasing the impacts if ever another tropical wave, storm or hurricane passes.
