Murder Accused Falls Ill Before Court Hearing

Police and legal officials were yesterday, November 8, forced to cancel the arraignment for Vicardo 'Scar' Farrell, who is charged with murder, as the 27 year-old fell ill and had to be taken to the hospital.

Scar was charged on November 5 with the murder of Devern Stanley, known as Snoopy.

At an arraignment, the details of the charge are read out to the accused in court, who is then allowed to plead guilty or not guilty.

The cause of his illness is unknown, but BVI Platinum News understands that Scar may remain in the hospital for the rest of this week. He reportedly had a condition that was left untreated.

Persons who showed up at the Road Town Police Station where the matter was to the mentioned yesterday, were later informed of the cancellation due to his illness.

Director of Public Prosecutions, Kim Hollis, QC, whose office is preparing the case against Scar, also showed up for the case, but later left after she was informed of the situation.

Stanley's family reported him missing on the June 5, 2016 and his body was discovered in Rouges Bay nearly two months later.

DNA testing was needed to confirm that the body found was that of Stanley.

The Pathologist concluded that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Micheal Matthews said that despite the challenges posed by the passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria, the police are still vigorously pursuing those responsible for serious crimes.

He said that this is to ensure victims and their families know that the police have not given up on ensuring justice takes place on their behalf.
