20th July, 2010 - Heavy rainfall and gusty winds are currently the main impacts of Tropical Disturbance 22. These conditions are expected to continue across the eastern Caribbean today and tomorrow, affecting the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, The Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba, The Turks and Caicos Islands and the Southeastern Bahamas during the next couple of days.

Flash floods and mud slides are highly possible, especially over or next to mountainous terrain.

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect until further notice.

Sea conditions have deteriorated in some areas, making it hazardous to operate small motor vessels. Mariners should exercise extreme caution on open waters as squall-like conditions within thunderstorms may occur.

Residents and visitors are reminded to EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION. Driving through flooded roadways can be very dangerous. The DDM have received reports from the Fire and Rescue Service of blocked roads in the Pockwood Pond, West End, Ballast Bay and Cane Garden Bay areas, making these roads impassable.

The Department of Disaster Management will continue to monitor the system and the resulting conditions and provide updates at www.bviddm.com.

We all were warned that this system would be affecting the BVI. Where were the crews from PWD? Where were the backhoes and excavators to clear the roads? Why were not all the assets of gvt out there helping people get home? The BVIEC had crews all over responding to power outages and restoring... more
