There will be no Gospel Fest held this year, a decision made after factoring all the issues which would make it difficult to host the event.
Speaking to BVI Platinum News on Monday, Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Melvin A. Turnbull said that when they looked at the space, time, money involved, availability and the tight schedule at the festival grounds, they decided to cancel the event.
However, he said that if all goes well they might very well be able to host it later this year, but for now it has been postponed to next year.
Pastor Turnbull said since it started some 14 years ago, this is the first year that the fest had a cancellation, but stated that the artists who were scheduled to perform last Thursday night will be performing at next year´s fest.
Last Thursday due to the inclement weather, they were forced to postpone the event and at the time, Pastor Turnbull said that they would have held the event before the month is out or early August.
Some of the artists that were expected to take the stage were Suzette Best out of Anguilla and Jason Mighty and Papa San out of Jamaica. Local artists Joy Praise and Dominion, among others were also expected to perform.
This year´s Emancipation Festival is being celebrated under the theme; A Colourful Cultural Jamboree with the slogan; Celebrating our Freedom with Family and Friends, BVI Festival 2010.
Meanwhile, Pastor Turnbull said that they will be having their customary Freedom March on August 1 and Church Service at the Sunday Morning Well.
