The Virgin Islands Heritage Month Committee on Thursday morning announced that their guest speaker at this year's Emancipation and Sunrise Services is the Rev. Clifton Davis.

The annual event which will be held on Sunday August 1st, commences at 3:00 pm with the Freedom March from opposite Government House to the Sunday Morning Well, to the beat of Dominion Gospel Band.

The Emancipation Service starts at 4:00 pm featuring special music, brief remarks, the Emancipation Proclamation and the highlight - guest speaker Rev. Clifton Davis.

The Sunrise Service will be held on Monday, August 2nd and will feature praise & worship poetry and Rev. Davis will once again be the guest speaker.

Dr. Davis is an actor, singer, composer, producer and minister, who for more than 30 years has shared his unique gifts with audiences and congregations around the world. Dr. Davis is probably best known for his 5-year run as Reverend Rueben Gregory on the popular NBC television series, "Amen," and his earlier series, `That's My Mama´

Dr. Davis is also an ordained Christian Minister, licensed by the St. Luke Baptist Church, New York, NY. As a revivalist, Dr. Davis has preached at literally hundreds of churches throughout the nation. From 1999 to 2001, he served as Co-Pastor of Welcome Christian Center of Huntington Beach, California, which he also co-founded. His interdenominational ministry spans more than 25 years during which he has evangelized throughout the nation, leading thousands to the love of God through Christ Jesus.

Most recently, Davis served as President and CEO of Welcome America, Inc., a non-profit that produces the 4th of July Festival for The City of Philadelphia, PA.

Davis holds a BA in Theology from Oakwood University and a Master of Divinity degree from Andrews University. He has received four Honourary Doctorates, including a Doctor of Ministry degree from Trinity International University; a Doctor of Letters degrees from Lincoln University, Paine College and Edward Waters College. He is also the recipient of more than 120 awards and citations for his social, civic and spiritual service.

He is listed In `Who´s Who In America.´ He has been recognized by such organizations as S.C.L.C., World Vision, the UNCF, the NAACP and the American Heart Association.

Dr. Davis is an avid golfer, licensed pilot and a certified scuba diver. However, his greatest loves are his Lord Jesus Christ, his wife, Monica and his 2 adult children; son, Christian, and daughter, Holly.

Gloria Gaynor did a version of it in the 70s. I don't remember the Jackson 5 one (I just read about it) but the GG one was really, really good. I'm glad Rev Clifton is coming. World class!

Are you paying him? It clearly states The Virgin Islands Heritage Month Committee announced, therefore they are paying for it, hopefully not with our tax paying money but they actually did fundraisers. Did you ever take a moment to consider the reason they are trying to bring someone different than our heritage is to attract more people to participate in the service. He earned his fame as a comedian. Next best thing for an out of work Black comedian is a preacher. He could earn millions easily and no audition necessary. Judge Mathis must have whispered our names in his ear. Maybe next time Al Green will be carting off the pot of gold. Tolians for all... more
